structure and creativity

by Joe Lafferty on July 10, 2009

In conversation a young art teacher yesterday, he was sharing how young people needed some structure to enable them no notice their own creativity. And how that may seem counter-intuitive. I thought of this quote from T.S.Eliot:

‘When forced to work within a strict framework the imagination is taxed to its utmost ‘ and will produce its richest ideas. Given total freedom the work is likely to sprawl.? T.S.Eliot
