WordPress Theme

by Joe Lafferty on September 20, 2008

A friend of mine recently asked to use one of my photos for his blog header & it got me thinking that Ireally need to use some of my own images!!  This is one of the reaons that I updated my wordpress theme – now using the Atahualpa 2.2 version.  I love it – it’s clean and functional, i particularly like the way the site resizes and the multiple header images.

Wordpress is a very cool blogging platform.  it’s fairly simple to start with (lots of premade themes etc), but has some real complexity and power under the bonnet (or hood for my US friends).  It’s really a CMS (content managment system) which can run with static pages as well as a traditional blog.

I invested in Lisa’s great book ‘Wordpress for Dummies‘ as there is SO much information on line, it’s sometimes hard to find what you are looking for.  Highly recommended if you are a newbie at PHP and stuff like that.

Hope you like the look of it!  If you do, please visit the Bytes for All Site on this link.

Don’t you think the lines lengths get too long on the main content with the flexible layout? Beyond 12 words it can be a lot harder to read. It’s more of an issue these days as people get larger and larger screen resolutions.

The theme you’re using does have a minimum width setting of 800px so it won’t get any narrower than that but ideally it should specify a maximum width of around 1200px to stop line lengths getting too long.

IE6 doesn’t support either min-width or max-width CSS settings so regardless users of that browser will see a squished or stretched site!

I wouldn’t worry too much about IE6 these days anyway! ;)
