Fellowship – Texas style

by Joe Lafferty on February 27, 2006

During my visit to Texas in February (for more info check out the LifeTree website), I had a brilliant end to my trip, visiting the Silver Dollar Bar, Bandera Texas.

While sharing a beer with my friend and colleague Richard and his wife Linda, I asked a group of musicians if I could take some pictures. They agreed, and finding I was from Scotland and could sing, they invited me to join them! It was one of the highlights of a great trip. I got to play an 1938 Martin amazing!

We had a blast – each taking it in turns to sing a song. There were some good guitarists in the group – and the songs flowed! I was a bit stumped, and out of practice, so sang The Wild Rover – which went down very well – great cheers to the line: ‘I spent all my money on whiskey and beer!’

I also got to meet local country star Dustin Lowe, and the Town Councilman Horst Pallaske, and as you can see, got my picture in the Bandera County Courier. The Texas ‘Hill Country’ paper. ‘Serving local communities with yesterdays values and today’s news’

The text of the article reads:
‘Joe Lafferty, President of Dundee Chamber of Commerce, Scotland was welcomed Bandera style when he was invited to jam with the local musicians at the Silver Dollar on Feb 23. Joe enjoyed the local fellowship and the warm greetings of City Councilman Horst Pallaske. He intends to return to Bandera.
